Cell phone tower

Cellular sites need protection from lightning for many reasons and equipment applications. Their antenna sites are not grounded and rarely are isolation equipment installed to protect phone lines, which means Ground Potential Rise could do serious damage. Cell sites operate under strict codes and regulations that do not address lightning strike energy on the necessity of isolation of wire-line communications.

By installing a sophisticated grounding system and an active, intelligent lighting protection system with disconnect capability, the many lines and legs of a cell site are no longer liabilities to the sites sensitive, expensive equipment.

Cellular sites always work with back up power supplies; either a standby generator or adequate UPS unit is normally provided to assure site operation. Our Model 2000 can be programmed to switch over to a backup power supply if lightning is anticipated in the area before a disconnection, never losing equipment operation. When safe, power will be switched back to the commercial power source automatically.

Fiber optics and fiber transceivers have replaced copper in some areas eliminating pathways. These interfaces are still connected to an AC power source and should be protected.

Many cell providers use microwave in the location of a remote cell site. Protection of this microwave equipment and the equipment that it feeds located in the cell site is mandatory. Our products are capable of protecting multiple interfacing configurations.
